The Real Madrid theory

Okay, after the appointment of Florentino Perez, Real have gone back to the Galactico ways. People say that the last Galactico era was an utter failure and that its going to be the same this time around. Lets step back a bit, maybe winning the UCL and League once might be considered a failure considering the amount of money spent. But in the long run I think Real Madrid, the club as an entity has only grown.

Maybe it did not work before. But this time its different. Firstly all the players they are going for are pretty young compared to the last galacticos. Secondly Kaka, is a very down to earth personality so its a safe bet that he will keep his head down and play good football. And Ronaldo who is exact opposite of Kaka with respect to modesty, but he is so focused on becoming the greatest player ever that I do not think his performance levels will drop. No doubt he will get more media attention, but he will stay focused on his football. There is no doubt. And I think the next two galacticos will be Alonso and Villa. If that’s the case. Then they are sorted attack wise. Now if they manage to give equal importance to their defense then they can go on to be a great team. And IMO the two Real transfers has elated the Spanish league above the English league IMO. I think the five best players in the world play in the La Liga, in Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Kaka and Xavi. And I don’t see any of them leaving that league in the near or far future.

Real Madrid know that it makes little difference what they spend, because they will make it all back in a couple of years. And not to mention, watching Ronaldo and Kaka play in the white jersey of Real, more Portugese and Brazilian players in the future will aspire to play in a Real jersey. Its a very smart strategy, strangely, others in football do not realize its benefits.

Its still very difficult to take in the fact that Kaka and Ronaldo will play for the same team next season. As a football fan am a bit excited.

United have accepted a £80M transfer bid for Ronaldo from Real Madrid. The player is in talks with Real over contract details and is due to have a medical in LA where his is vacationing at the moment and recovering from a groin injury.

Florentino Perez has proved he is the right man for the job at Real by clinching another world record transfer for Real in what is his second week in office. Real have paid £56M for Kaka, which surpasses the world record £47M that they paid for Zidane. Milan have confirmed the departure of Kaka to Real, but the player cannot be officially unvieled as a Madrid palyer because he is in International duty for Brazil. Perez has also confirmed that he intends to bring Ibrahimovich, Ribery and Ronaldo next to Madrid. Can he achieve this is yet to be seen. But tonight he can bask in the glory of acheiveing some thing that previous president Calderon could not do in his entire term in two weeks.

Ancelotti apointed as new Chelsea manager

Carlo Ancelotti quit as Milan manger last week has been aapointed as the new Chelsea manager this week. Incredible and swift development, and word is that he has been handed a huge transfer warchest for the summer, with Milan star Kaka on top of the list.

Ancelotti who won the Serie A once and the European Cup twice with Milan as a manager has been expected to bring the all awaited European glory to the Chelsea faithful. Although Ancelotti is known for making the Milan team a retirement home of football stars his first task as the Chelsea man ironically is to bring a balance of youth in the team with players like Lampard, Ballack, Deco, Drogba, etc. all in their mid to early thirties along with players like Terry, Cole, etc. all approaching thirty as well.

Ancelotti has to live up to the legend of Mourinho and Hiddink which has proved to be quite a curse for recent managers like Grant and World Cup winning coach Scolari. Who all got the sack after mediocre performances, Grant who almost missed out on a European double got the sack inspite of his achievements. Ancelotti knows he has a strong financial backing at Chelsea but with that he also has a very impatient owner is Abramovich.

Juve legend Nedved retires

Juventus midfield legend Pavel Nedved has confirmed that he will retire from Juventus at the end of the 2008/09 season and will play his last game against Lazio. This brings an end to his 8 year affair with Juventus which brought him four league titles and a Ballon D’or.

Juventus have also released a statement on the club website, wishing the Czech all the best for the future and thanking him for his time in Turin.

“Juventus has taken note of the decision by Pavel Nedved to finish his spell here at the end of his current contract. Tomorrow, in the last home game, the club, his team-mates and all of the fans will give a proper goodbye to a player who has written many memorable pages of history with this squad, contributing to some important goals,” read the statement.

“During his eight years with Juventus, Nedved has always given his all, showing an attachment and commitment that all fans will remember, both today and tomorrow. The club hopes Pavel Nedved is a winner in the future, hopes he will continue in his professional career, and that his charisma and experience will give him, and Juventus fans, satisfaction.”

FA Cup glory for Chelsea

Guus Hiddink gives a farewell gift to Chelsea in his presumably last game as a manager of Chelsea. Chelsea finally sought silver ware after two lean years and few upsets. Chelsea defeated Everton 2-1 after going 1-0 down to a Saha goal on the 25th second. They pulled back with a help of Drogba and a Frank Lampard screamer.

Chelsea throughly deserved to win. They dominated Everton throughtout. Chelsea also had a sound Malouda goal disallowed. Malouda who was considered a flop among the Chelsea faithful few months ago is now a regular starter and has put in some great performances, this being one of them. Ashley Cole also put in a great performance and rightly won the man of the match.

I would like to conclude with a quick question, who had a better season Liverpool or Chelsea?
